Breast Cancer Awareness

Breast Cancer Awareness is dedicated to my mother Connie, who was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer, and to help educate the millions of others around the world, to become more Aware about Breast Cancer Awareness.

Breast Cancer is something that I, took the time to learn more about, the day my mother called me after her doctors appointment. She explained to me she had been diagnosed with Breast Cancer; and may not have that long to live. I felt my heart drop into my stomach as I heard those words, as she told me not to worry, and that she would be going into surgery for a Mastectomy and then possible reconstructive surgery that week. It took me a moment,to hold back my tears, as I tried to find the right words to say, to help comfort her. As we both pushed the end buttons on our phones, I dropped to the floor and rested my head down, crying as I had flashbacks of when I was little and use to be scared of the dark. I remembered all of the times I would sneak into my parents bedroom at night, and waking my mother up quietly, and asking if I could sleep next to her.  My mother always knew how to comfort me when I was scared or needed help, and that really opened my eyes about the importance of me being there for her at this difficult time, and to learn more about Breast Cancer Awareness.

After finding out about her Breast Cancer, I was inspired to start this website, BreastCancerAwareness.net, so I could get facts and more about Breast Cancer Awareness, including the first steps you need to take. The most important step woman of all ages need to take, would be doing regular self breast examinations, and getting to know your breasts; so you can realize when you are having symptoms and what to watch out for in case you need to call and schedule an appointment to see a doctor about having a mammogram.

I want to thank everyone for all of your kindness and thoughtful comments, it has been awhile since my last post, and it really was touching to read all of my responses. I created this website, to honor my mother, who has been a truely strong woman through this whole process. Life is a special journey, or maybe an adventure, never knowing exactly what lies ahead. There will always be a rocky road, and it is up to you to follow the detour sign to the smooth road that you know you can take instead… Happiness is yours, because it is you that is in control of your lifes direction, so my advice is to live your life with a positive and accepting aspect…

Coping with Breast Cancer

Mom and the dogs at home :) The picture to the right is my mother, relaxing on the couch a few days after her masectomy, with her dogs- Baby and Knotty. They always know how to make her feel better, and can tell when she is in need of some love!  She keeps a pillow on her chest, to protect herself,  just in case one of the dogs accidently jumps up on her!  They continue to help her along her road to recovery, giving her the unconditional love and support she needs, which has given her a positive outlook on each new day that emerges.

“Chemo. The Starting of a New Begining. Day One… First Treatment”

When anyone hears of “Chemo”, it overwhelmes not only the person diagnosed with Breast Cancer, but every loved one and person in their life. Even the people around the world who have not experienced the feeling of being diagnosed, or having someone close to them going through this battle…really care and give tremendous support. We must really believe that this is a battle we will all overcome in time. When you believe, nothing is impossible.

My mom is currently having reconstructive surgery now, after having her masectomy, and she has just started her six months or so of Chemo Therapy. The day before my mothers first Chemo Treatment, she was very nervous, because she had been to the Cancer Center before; and had said to me,” Jessica…I really don’t want you driving me to my first treatment…me and your dad went for the first time and ended up having to reschedule after speaking with the doctor there, and it’s just very emotional. Some of what you see there is very depressing. You’re dad sat down and held my hand with tears in his eyes, and said that, “he loved me so much and that he could not live without me…”.

My dad ended up taking my mother to her first treatment at the Cancer Center, as she went under a six hour procedure, we waited anxiously as millions of thoughts ran through everyones minds…It really awakens something inside you to feel the seriousness of this disease…and also awakens you to what is really important in your life. We all love, and without love, what do you have? I have much to be grateful for, and I thank the doctors for my moms successful first Chemo Treatment, and how she came back from her first day feeling positive and fearless. Her first side effects were mainly being very tired, and as the next day when the medicine was kicking in more, she began to have bowl movements and discomfort of her stomache. She had to go to work the next night and had to run to the bathroom quite a few times, so a change of cloths is good if you are planning on working or going out after your treatment, just in case. Another good thing to do is to look into certain foods that fight cancer. I recently gave my mother a book and ever since, she has been changing her diet some. There are foods out there that have natural ingredients in them, that can help you while in fighting Cancer.

If you focus on the negative of this, then the likely outcome will be negative. It is like waking up late and letting something small ruin your day by thinking negatively, instread of moving on and getting past that missed alarm clock…If you let the bad thoughts consume your mind-nothing good is going to come from it…but if you can just get past that first bad experience and move forward positively, good things are in the near future. I keep my thoughts and prayers high for my mother and family, and for every single person reading this out there, that everything is going to be okay, once you take that first step.

To anyone out there who wants to leave a comment on my blogs, saying that “they are not sure this is true…but thanks for leaving a post” My mother does have Breast Cancer, and my family is going through a very hard time right now, along with millions of others. Everything I write here is strait from my heart, sincere, and TRUE.  Thank you for those who leave supportive comments, and can understand what I and others are going through, and especially for your respect and kindness.
