Final Chemo Therapy Treatment

My mother has finished her chemotherapy with success. Chemotherapy is a rocky road, I must say. A few weeks after she had started Chemotherapy for her Breast Cancer, she knew that she would eventually start loosing all of her hair; so she went to the local beauty school where she knew some girls that worked there, and she had them shave her head, “to get it over with” she had came home and said to me and my family. I felt so bad for her when she pulled off the hat she was wearing after she had her head shaved, and she started to cry, and then I couldn’t help but cry myself. I gave her the biggest hug I have ever given her, and I looked at her and told her that she was still as beautiful as ever, if not more now than before. The next day I went out to the mall and some stores looking for some cute scarves and hats, and I ended up buying her a really nice wigg. When I gave it to her, she felt a little embarressed to wear it, but appreciated me going out of my way to try to make her feel better. We laughed and joked around, as she tried it on…I had to help her some, because I think she put it on backwards the first time ;) .
One evening my father made a comment about her hair sticking up, when it was growing out a little bit, and that really hurt her feelings. I was so upset that he had even said anything, but he wasn’t trying to be mean- but that one comment made my mom go from walking out the door with him to go out to dinner- to turning around and going and putting on the nice wigg I had boughten her, and she said to him, “Do I look better now??” I laughed and said, ” Mom, your so pretty, whether you wear a wig or not, don’t take what he said to heart. She ended up taking off the wigg after a minute and we all were laughing. I guess in time, like everything that changes, we get use to it. Everyone got use to my mom having short hair, and now she likes it. Im actually a little jealous of her because I wish I did not have this thick hair to blow dry and straighten all the time. I have sooo much hair it’s crazy! Besides loosing hair, while she was going through chemotherapy, she tasted food differently than before. I went out to eat with my mom at a restuarant she loved one day, and she ordered something she use to really like, but when it came and she tasted it-she couldn’t eat it because of the chemotherapy changing her taste in foods. I felt awful! But things changed and she found different foods that she could taste better and actually liked, so don’t worry so much about it ladys. If you are going through chemotherapy or are deciding if you may decide to, please talk to your family and your doctor more about it. Your health care provider will give your medication for any symtoms that are involved with the process, and in no time you will be feeling better and on your way to recovery. :) Chemotherapy saved my mother’s life, and I’ve learned alot from the whole process, like to be strong no matter what comes your way…and that even if you have no hair, you are still beautiful. It is whats inside of you that really matters, and if other’s don’t see that, than they are not worth your time. To be truely beautiful, is to be strong, supportive, kind, and non judgemental…along with other factors that would take forever to write down- but my point is that sometimes we have to go through some tough situations, and if we can make it through them, we just become stronger. Life is so precious, and time seems to fly by, so enjoy and embrace your life and time with those you love.

I want to thank everyone for all of your kindness and thoughtful comments, it has been awhile since my last post, and it really was touching to read all of my responses. I created this website, to honor my mother, who has been a truely strong woman through this whole process. Life is a special journey, or maybe an adventure, never knowing exactly what lies ahead. There will always be a rocky road, and it is up to you to follow the detour sign to the smooth road that you know you can take instead… Happiness is yours, because it is you that is in control of your lifes direction, so my advice is to live your life with a positive and accepting aspect…
